Have no friends?

I have a group of about 5 girls I've 'been best friends with, some since Kindergarten others since Elementary or Middle school.





The thing is, whenever I go out, or do anything, its always with them. I love them dearly but I wish i had new friends too.





I have no guy friends to hang out with either. I am 23 and where I work i never meet people my own age. I know i am too old to really do anything about that now but does anyone else ever feel jealous when you look at peoples myspaces or facebooks and theyre having such a good time with all kinds of people?





And for some reason, I'm not the kind of person that makes friends easily. I never know what anyone would se in me and why they would want to be my friend anyway.





I have a problem with jealousy.

My space and facebook stuff is fake. You can add anybody as your friend.





I know that the pictures people put up are very convincing but alot of those friendships are fake! They are not really friends.After a while you feel pressure just to go out every friday night and remember to take pictures and the pressure to have fun and look like you are having fun.





Some people are real friends to eachother but not huge groups of people. A lot of that facebook and myspace stuff is superficial. It doesn't last and they won't be friends even 5- 10 yrs later. So try not to get jealous.





People are really self absorbed around 16-30 years old so I've been told. Everyone is to a point I guess. Some people come out of it faster than others. When people start to want real friendships then they will not be looking on facebook. They will turn to family and the real outside world. Don't feel like you are missing out if you aren't on facebook or myspace.





Get involved and make friends outside and maybe you'll get inside of facebook or myspace. But just remember that alot of it is fake. Invest in real friends and say screw it to people who are focused on the superficial things in life.

Reply:You sound just like me! I still hang around with my old pals and it's difficult to make new friends cuz I'm shy. So it's normal. And no one says being jealous is wrong...healthy jealousy is fine and urges you to do better. Unhealthy jealousy is horrible and always brings the person down. You might never know what people might see in you because to yourself, you are very common and know yourself very well so you don't find anything special or new in yourself but who knows, others might think different! There might be someone in love with you but just isn't brave enough to tell you! Just be yourself!! Try to get along with guys...talk to them, smile...but some guys can be very nasty so watch out for such types! Happy New Year!
